People who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is simply the process of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is often uncomfortable and may carry risks if not performed in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detox services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug rehab facility which can adequately oversee and present medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services usually include insuring the client is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, offering proper nutrition and ensuring the person is getting proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as required to make the detoxification process as easy and safe as possible. The individual in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some form of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can supply detoxification services, the individual will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any complications are resolved as quickly and safely as possible.
