The National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services reports that almost 1,427,000 children under the age of 18 live with a drug addicted mother in a single-parent household. With so many mothers in need of treatment, locating programs that provide residential beds for clients children is important. Programs that support the children of addicts are an expanding area of drug treatment programs. Admitting that you have a drug addiction problem and will need help is not a simple thing. Single mothers in this position are typically afraid that by admitting they require drug addiction treatment; they will lose custody of their children.
